On March 21st, we carried out a cooperative activity with the students of the Bilingual Section involving Milagros Fernandez, mother of a student, Alfonso Tébar as the language consultant and myself.
The basis of cooperative learning is that students learn, not only from the teacher, but also from the interaction with any other member of the educational community, especially his own colleagues.
The objectives of the activity, related to the unit “Numerical Proportionality”, were three:
- Students had to realize the need of using the right proportions in situations such as, for example, cooking a traditional recipe.
- Students had to be able to calculate the proper amounts to cook the dish according to the number of serves indicated.
- Students had to reach the objectives above through the cooperation with their teammates using English language.
To reinforce learning, Milagros showed us in a practical way how the application of the right proportions produces a delicious dish (a result that students and teachers could taste).
We can rate only positively activities of this kind and we assure that the next year we will repeat the experience.
